Pleased to meet with Refat Chubarov, Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People

It was an honour to meet with Refat Chubarov, Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People and a tireless advocate for the rights and freedoms of Crimean Tatars.

The Crimean Tatars are the indigenous people of Crimea. Since Russia’s illegal occupation of Crimea in 2014, the Crimean Tatar people have faced persecution, intimidation, and serious human rights violations.

I remain committed to standing with Ukraine and the Crimean Tatar people in their fight for freedom, justice, and the restoration of Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Crimea is Ukraine. Canada will continue to stand with Ukraine and its people until they win.
