Celebrating the completion of tunnelling of the Eglinton Crosstown West Extension

On Tuesday we celebrated the completion of tunnelling of the Eglinton Crosstown West Extension – a project that received $1.9 billion in federal funding.

Tunnelling from Mount Dennis Station to Jane Street, is now complete. Tunnelling of the Etobicoke segment, from Scarlett Rd to Renforth Dr, was completed in June 2024.

This is an historic milestone in the work to tunnel and build this important transit project in Etobicoke Centre and our neighbouring communities.

I am incredibly proud to have advocated successfully alongside our community to:

✅ Secure tunnelling after fighting for it to be tunnelled from 2015 to 2017.
✅ Obtain provincial funding in early 2018.
✅ Secure $1.9 billion in federal funding in 2021.

The Eglinton Crosstown West Extension will improve the quality of life for people in Etobicoke Centre and across the GTA by:

➡ Providing access to fast and reliable public transit.
➡ Reducing traffic leading to shorter commute times.
➡ Supporting our economy.
➡ Helping to reduce carbon emissions.

This announcement is an important step in the construction of the tunnelled Eglinton Crosstown West Extension, a great day for Etobicoke, and an excellent example of how we are building Canada Strong.
