I was proud to present Prime Minister Mark Carney with a vyshyvanka (embroidered shirt) alongside caucus colleagues to thank him for his leadership in supporting Ukraine and to mark Vyshyvanka Day.
A vyshyvanka is a Ukrainian symbol of identity, strength and freedom. Today, as Ukrainians continue to defend themselves against Russia’s invasion, wearing a vyshyvanka carries even deeper meaning - It shows solidarity with the people of Ukraine.
Supporting Ukraine is not only the right thing to do, but it is the right thing for Canada - If Russia wins, it will not stop at Ukraine, that is why Ukraine’s victory is vital to Canada’s security.
Canada has been a global leader in supporting Ukraine since 2022. Under Prime Minister Carney’s leadership, Canada’s global leadership has continued.
We must stand with the people of Ukraine until they win, until we all win.
On Vyshyvanka Day and every day, we proudly stand with Ukraine.
