We secured tunnelling, then $2 billion to build the Eglinton Crosstown West Extension. Below is an update on the progress of construction and its impact on our community.
What is happening now: Tunnelling in Etobicoke is complete.
Temporary realignment of Eglinton Ave W at Kipling: • This work will take place from April 2026 to Fall 2026.
• This is necessary to build the underground station box at Kipling Ave.
Traffic and pedestrian impact: Metrolinx informs me that one westbound and eastbound lane will be closed; there will be temporary bus stop relocations, but the multi-use path and south sidewalk will be maintained.
Borehole drilling near Eglinton Avenue and Highway 427 • This work will take place from May 13, 2026 to May 25, 2026.
• Crews, working on the boulevard between Eglinton Ave W and Highway 427, will drill two boreholes approximately 20 - 40 metres deep, collect soil samples, and install groundwater monitoring wells to help measure water levels for planning and approvals.
Traffic and pedestrian impact: Metrolinx informs me that no traffic or pedestrian impacts are expected as a result of this work and that all TTC bus stops will remain open.
Richview Rd traffic light installation • This work will take place April 2026 to July 2026
• Crews will begin installing traffic lights at the intersection of Richview Rd and Scarlett Rd.
Traffic and pedestrian impact: Metrolinx informs me that access onto Richview will be maintained throughout the work. Temporary lane closures at Richview and Scarlett intersection will be in place during work hours (7am to 5pm, Monday to Friday). The bus stop on the east side of Scarlett at Richview will be temporarily closed for the duration of the work; northbound transit users will be to use the bus stop north of La Rose Ave. The bus stop on the northwest corner of Scarlett and Richview will be temporarily relocated to the southwest corner of Scarlett and Richview.
