I have been advocating that we take the steps needed to restore integrity to our immigration system.
Last week our government took an important step to do just that - Minister of Immigration Marc Miller announced that, for the first time, Canada will set a cap to reduce the number of temporary residents who are allowed to come to Canada. This will represent a 19% reduction in the temporary resident population.
While many temporary residents bring significant economic and other benefits to our country, it would be a mistake to welcome them without ensuring that there are the proper supports for those already in Canada, and those who wish to come.
