Recognizing Community Recognition Award recipients Susan Ferracuti & The Sandwich Sisters
March 22, 2024
Every few days I am highlighting individuals who recently received my Community Recognition Award for their service to Etobicoke Centre. This week I would like to highlight the work of Susan Ferracuti & The Sandwich Sisters.
In 2020 when the city locked down due to the pandemic, the “Sandwich Sister" initiative was born in the Beaches area. Essential soup kitchens and shelters were no longer able to prepare food for the homeless. In May 2020 Susan invited her friends and acquaintances to her Markland Wood neighbourhood to join the “Sandwich Sisters”.
For the first three years sandwiches were delivered every Tuesday to the Good Shepherd Ministries on Queen Street East. When they could receive food from a closer organization, Susan’s group focused their efforts on Haven on the Queensway in Etobicoke.
The Markland Wood “Sandwich Sisters” are a group of selfless women who are now all friends. They have made and donated over 52,000 sandwiches along with snacks, treats and clothing.
Thank you for all you do for the Etobicoke Centre community!
