Every few days I am highlighting individuals who recently received my Community Recognition Award for their service to Etobicoke Centre. This week I would like to highlight the work of Sofiya Chorniy.

Sofiya has been volunteering and organizing initiatives with several Toronto and national environmental organizations for more than 10 years.

In 2018 she was one of Starfish Canada's Top 25 Under 25 Environmentalists. She has donated her social media skills to profiling and promoting projects with the Green Neighbours Network of Toronto, Environmental Defence Canada and Etobicoke Climate Action right here in Etobicoke.

She has organized clothing swaps in a park to encourage re-use and social networking. She has volunteered at Etobicoke's annual TreeFest and at the REmarkets hosted by the St. Lawrence Neighborhood Association, and is one of the principals for Etobicoke Greenspiration, a project just launched to profile at least 20 individuals, organizations and businesses who are demonstrating climate solutions right here in Etobicoke.
