Canada is implementing a two-year cap on new study permit applications for international students

I have been advocating that we take the steps needed to restore integrity to our immigration system, including our International Students Program.
Today the government took an important step to do just that. Today, Minister of Immigration, Marc Miller announced Canada is implementing a two-year cap on new study permit applications for international students. This will significantly decrease the number of new international student permits, particularly in Ontario. I believe that this is an important step in restoring integrity to the International Students Program.
While international students bring significant economic and other benefits to our country, it would be a mistake to welcome them without ensuring that there are the proper supports for those already in Canada, and those who wish to come.
