The federal government has taken a number of actions to deal with the housing crisis: We've introduced important measures like removing GST on purpose built rentals and providing $ millions to municipalities to build housing through the Housing Accelerator Fund. However, the federal government can't do it alone, and it will take collaboration from all levels of government to tackle the housing crisis.
Recently, at the Standing Committee on Finance, I asked the Mayor of Guelph what the provincial government’s role needs to be to address the housing crisis.
The response in summary: The province has a massive role to play, municipalities are ready to work with the provincial government, but a lot more needs to be done.
