Amanda and I were proud to celebrate Ukrainian heritage at the BWV Toronto Ukrainian Festival. We marched in solidarity for Ukraine as they defend their democracy and homeland against the Russian invasion. It was wonderful to see so many Canadians from across the country attending the festival and showing their support. I was joined by my MP colleagues, Minister of Justice, Arif Virani and MP James Maloney.

Notwithstanding the courage and resolve of the Ukrainian people, this war is having global consequences:
👉 Russia is committing genocide every day;
👉 Millions of people have become refugees;
👉 Hundreds of millions in the Global South are facing food shortages and famine;
👉 The war is the primary cause of food and energy price inflation here in Canada and around the world;
👉 The war poses an existential threat to global security and to Canada’s security.

Under this Liberal government, Canada has been a global leader in supporting Ukraine.

Since January 2022, Canada has committed more than $8 billion in funding for financial, military, humanitarian, development, and immigration assistance to Ukraine. This funding includes:
👉 Over $5 billion in financial assistance (the most financial support per capita in the world)
👉 $1.8 billion in military support;
👉 $352.5 million in humanitarian assistance;
👉 $127 million in development assistance; and
👉 Over $102 million in security and stabilization assistance.
👉 Implementation of the Canada-Ukraine Authorization for Emergency Travel providing temporary residence here in Canada for over 160,000 people fleeing the war.

Our Canadian government will not be deterred. Canada will support the Ukrainian people until they win, until we all win.
