Today, as we solemnly observe International Holocaust Remembrance Day, we remember, and we honour, the memory of the 6 million Jews brutally murdered in the Holocaust.
This day also marks the 81st anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, the former German Nazi concentration and extermination camp. It was at Auschwitz-Birkenau where around 1 million Jews were murdered by gas in the Shoah.
We also honour the memory of the tens of thousands of Poles, Roma and Sinti, LGBTQ2I individuals, persons with disabilities, and others who were also killed at Auschwitz-Birkenau.
In the aftermath of the Holocaust, humanity pledged Never Again not just to genocide, but also to antisemitism and all forms of hate.
On International Holocaust Remembrance Day, we reaffirm our hallowed pledge of Never Again.
